“Volatility is the word for the gold-related issues – silver-related issues too,” says Professional Coin Grading Service numismatist David Hall in his weekly Rare Coin Market Report for Aug. 29.
“We had a day last week when gold went down $103, and then on Friday it went up $68. … On the rare-coin market side, the word is rarity. Rare coins, truly rare coins, are on fire.”

Hall also warns that high metal prices have brought out some scam artists. Therefore, investors should stick to trusted dealers.

“The best advice I can give you in the coin market is to deal with people that you know. Deal with respected members of the numismatic community, PCGS-authorized dealers, for example.
Deal with the established dealers. … Coins I think are going to get even better. I think that goldand silver still have a long way to go.”

Editors note: Austin Rare Coins is proudly a member of PCGS and has a BBB rating of A+ with no outstanding complaints in 22 years.
